For seven years prior to her position has Founding President & CEO of Pipeline, Joni served as a trusted advisor to CEOs, Board Chairs, and other leaders of organizations and initiatives involving complex planning and public/stakeholder engagement. She guided her clients in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, new offerings, and marketing plans. She also directly represented some of her clients in the areas of public policy/advocacy, alliance building, media relations and board/funder communications.

Projects included those for the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation (assisting in launching the $580 Biosciences Initiative), Kansas Bio (trade association), Union Station of Kansas City, The Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Institute, The Eisenhower Presidential Library and Foundation; and the Kansas Statehouse Restoration Project.
